Pickering Physiotherapy Institute offers Shockwave therapy that accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.
The shockwaves are not electrical impulses, but rather an intense, but very short energy wave travelling faster than the speed of sound. This shockwave is called a Radial Pressure Wave (RPW). The RPW is applied carefully at the right frequency to treat affected areas. As it passes through the soft tissue, it creates a shockwave that helps increase healing and improves blood circulation which will help the body heal. As well as helping to break down adhesions, scar tissue, and lower pain in the affected area, and reduce the frequency of muscle spasms.
Shockwave therapy can treat: This treatment is commonly used for conditions such as Achilles tendonitis, tennis elbow, shoulder tendonitis, and other tendon problems.
It also treats a wide range of medical conditions including:
